A logo is normally designed at 300 dpi (dots per inch) so that it is suitable for business cards, stationery and signs. Whilst images placed on your website are displayed at around 72 dpi, it is absolutely vital to create your logo in a higher resolution than this. The version of your logo suitable for the web can be created from your 300dpi original, but if your logo was designed to just 72dpi then you won't be able to give it to your printers and get anything printed in a reasonable quality.
